Alternative MG AP front brake callipers for MG TF

Just before MG Rover went belly up they were developing a simpler (cheaper) brake spec option for mainstream TFs. The idea was to use the larger 304mm front disc on all cars and not just the TF 160 or other cars that were ordered with Sportpack 2 (the big brakes and 16″ wheels). In place of the 4 pot calliper it was intended to use a two pot calliper with smaller pads on all cars aside from the TF 160 and others where Sportpack 2 was specified.

Comparing the common 4 pot calliper (four pistons) as fitted to very many TF models since 2002 and the MGF Trophy 160 SE before that, and the 2 pot (two piston) calliper

Inside the Caliper

The brake pad for this oddball calliper has been identified as shown below under Mintex part number MDB 1890 or EBC DP2197/2

This was fitted to a number of development and other ‘in house’ Longbridge TFs but never reached production. However, the Administrators sold many of these cars to the public, so obviously when pads need replacing there is listing, off the shelf parts and no back up support.
