Clear Rear Vision – Soft Top Windows Restored with Renovo
This smart 1275cc Round Wheel Arch Midget is in very good condition and had a new hood fitted just over a year ago, sadly the car has been left for a very long time with the hood folded down and consequently the transparent plastic rear windows have turned almost opaque. This long term lay up with the hood folded has left the rear windows completely obscured, with rear vision only possible by using the door mirrors. Here was an ideal opportunity to test the effectiveness of Renovo, a product that I have seen and read about but never used before. Following the instructions on the bottle I found a piece of soft cotton cloth and applied the liquid which is very like polish to use. Quickly the liquid dries leaving a white residue and polishing this away restores the surface to the plastic window.
Zero visibility
As can be seen from the photos the window’s surface responds very well to the polishing and soon full transparency is regained. Photo three with only half the window treated shows just how effective Renovo is as you can now clearly see through the treated section, while the untreated side remains obscure. It took less than half of 100 ml bottle of Renovo to restore the windows in this Midget. However it does say that it cannot restore plastic windows that have turned yellow with age or those that have become crazed or badly scratched. Renovo is available from MGOC Spares
1. Beginning on the rear quarter light, rubbing on the Renovo apply to both sides
2. Polishing off from inside the transparency has been almost fully restored
3. Half the window has been treated
4. Back window now treated with just the nearside rear quarter panel left to tackle
5. The hood windows are now transformed
6. First rate rear vision restored
