Schloss Dyck Classic Days
The Schloss Dyck Classic Days event has now established itself as one of Germany’s premier historic car gatherings and is now in its fourth year. It combines a balanced mixture of race action and concours set in the beautiful grounds of the Schloss Dyck. Organised by a voluntary group of 75 people the event has raised over 400,000 Euros towards the upkeep of the castle, which the remaining family members who owned it have now turned into a Trust.

A thoroughly enjoyable two laid back days (nearly horizontal) at Classic Days, Trips Memorial. The event is a sort of German Festival of Speed, but without the speed and with a much more of a garden party atmosphere. Entry is 10 Euros for the biggest display of club cars you will ever see plus hundreds of exotic classic cars. On Saturday evening I was invited to the Drivers drinks party, held inside the courtyard of the castle courtesy of Chopard.
Bentley were represented in force with the Bentley Boys all in period costume with no fewer than four cars. A Concours D’elegance was held on Saturday with some very exotic machinery on display, much appreciated by a large crowd (they were expecting in excess of 50,000).
On each day there was a timed run around the roads that circle the castle, taking about 2 minutes 40 seconds, oh and no overtaking.
On a visit to the club stands I found the MG Drivers Club and MG Car Club, they seem to get on well together, when I met the President of the Drivers Club he was chatting to the press secretary of the MG Car Club, all very friendly.
This year’s garden party celebrated the 75th aniversary of the Silberpfeil, the silver arrows of Mercedes Benz with Jochen Mass running a W25 around the 2.8km track.
Next to the track in the historic paddock the collection of Silberpfeils were completed with the Mercedes W125, W165 and Hans Herrmann’s W196 accompanied by the correct famous blue transporter. There was also a Alfa Romeo 12C Grand Prix equally rare and along with a Talbot Lago and Maserati 250F.
The weather was lovely and sunny on Saturday, but cloudy and showers on Sunday, but in all it was a very pleasant weekend. I will certainly return next year and would recommend the event to all classic car enthusiasts.
