MG & Classic Car Rally at Tenterden Town Station

Once again Ashford and Faversham MGOC combined forces with Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway for a very successful rally at Tenterden Town Station. MGs, steam trains and sunshine certainly proved a winning combination as entrants arrived in their highly polished MGs and parked up in the fields behind the station.

Providing added interest to classic car enthusiasts the event was also open to other classics, with some very distinguished marques represented including Alvis, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Rover and Triumph. The day was most ably organised by Brian Richardson and Jamie Peirson and their team of dedicated stewards all drawn from the club. Attention to detail has ensured that this smooth running event has continued to flourish and always attracts a good turn out of interesting cars.

The railway station setting provides an ideal back-drop particularly for the earlier cars. Railway enthusiasts could even book a nostalgic trip on a steam train.

The oldest car at the rally was Fred Newman’s Morris 8 Tourer, while the best MG of the day was a very nicely presented 1935 MG PB belonging to Graham Elgar. The best non MG was an immaculate, original and un-restored 1952 Triumph Mayflower belonging to M Barnsley. This was a genuine time-warp car and still had its original factory fitted rubber floor covering. Best Club Stand was Dartford Area and the furthest travelled entrants to Tenterden were Robert and Christine Meyerink a couple from Holland with an MG Midget. After the awards were made the Regional Secretary Fred Robinson concluded the proceedings and thanked everyone for their hard work and support.
