Sound Advice

MGF owners may wish to consider sound deadening the doors. There is considerable benefit to be had from this simple improvement. At speed the noise levels are much reduced.

Inspection shows an absence of any deadening material, as traditionally adhered to earlier MGs inside of the door skin	We’ve recently had a model come in for a service, the owner said the doors sounded like a waiter dropping a tray. This description was an exaggeration. In my youth, I used to play in a group (when the ‘Barnet’ was all there) and we sounded like the tray!
	Easy enough to apply sound deadening pads can be purchase through auto motive factors. The pad is self adhering on one side. Simply ensure the surface is clean and lay it on

While you have the access to the inside of the door panels, it makes sense to splash a little Waxoyl around. First, we chose to spray around the edges with a body schutz (underseal) which offers a further level of sound deadening as well as extra rust-proofing. After that, we added a blast of Waxoyl. If you do undertake this job, do ensure that afterwards the drain holes on the bottom lip of the panel remain clear. Check them before you refit the door panel, and again in a few days, after the rust proofing material sprayed in there has had time to harden.

Now close the door and you will notice the difference. It’s now much more of a Batman style……… KERDUFF! Drive the car and notice the reduction in road noise…………. a most pleasant improvement.
