After the long trip to Knockhill the drivers had a five week period to fettle their cars before setting off for the annual trip to the ever popular 2.2 mile long Cadwell Park circuit in Lincolnshire. The circuit is very narrow and has many tight bends and gradients all of which make for close racing and spectacular viewing.

The Class A cars were again first out and it was no surprise to see the Midgets occupying the first three grid places with Gary Smith on pole ahead of a revitalised Chris Pollard and Lorraine Clark, the leading MGB was that of Dave Amphlett in 4th place. On the third row was Kelly Mercer and the returning Cameron Brownlee.

On such a tight circuit it is vital to get a good start and Gary Smith just held the first corner from Clark who had made a flier from the second row. Mercer also made an excellent start moving up to third place ahead of Amphlett and Pollard. Smith soon pulled out what looked like a race winning lead but Clark was pushing hard and began to catch the leader. At the start of the 6th lap Clark was within 25 metres of Smith and the scene was set for an exciting run to the flag. The whole situation changed when Mercer spun exiting Barn Corner and hit the tyre wall, the car stopped in the middle of the track and the race was immediately red-flagged and the race results declared at the end of the 6th lap. This gave Smith his 5th win of the season from Clark, who equalled the lap record, with Amphlett taking an excellent third place in his rapid MGB. Mercer’s pristine 1500 Midget was badly damaged but thankfully she sustained no serious injuries and took 4th place as that was her position at the end of the 6th lap.

Class B/F saw the first four places occupied by Class B Maestro’s with current Championship leader Nick Evans on pole ahead of Kevin Bull who was on the front row of the grid for the first time. Andy Campbell and Jamie Perry were on the second row ahead of Mick Weidner’s MGF and Nick Arden on row three.

Evans held the lead into the first corner but Weidner’s MGF was looking very strong and he took the race lead on the 3rd lap and soon pulled out a comfortable lead. Behind Weidner there was an intense battle for Class B honours with Evans fighting hard to hold off Campbell, Perry, Bull and Cole. It was all extremely close but Evans held on to take a narrow Class B win from Campbell and Bull who drove superbly to take 3rd place, his best ever MGOC finish, ahead of Perry and Nick Arden who took the point for fastest lap.
